That’s right, take a nice slow deep breath! For fun, take 2 more deep breaths!

How do you feel now?

Breathe normally now and just focus on the breath as it enters and exits your body. Close your eyes if you can. Listen to the sound of the breath. Focus on the moment between the exhalation and inhalation and again between the inhalation and exhalation.

According to Sheila Patel MD, some of the benefits of a regular practice of simple, deep breathing include:

  • Reduced anxiety and depression
  • Lower/stabilized blood pressure
  • Increased energy levels
  • Muscle relaxation
  • Decreased feelings of stress and overwhelm

For those of you focused on health, imagine the positive health effects of the breath. For those of you focused on relationships, imagine how much more patient or less reactive you could be. For those thinking about productivity, communication, self-development, etc., need I say more? Imagine feeling some kind of benefit every day for the rest of your life!
